Co-op tea cards launch

At the recent launch of a our new collectors range of Butterworth tea cards in association with East of England Co-op, Robert Butterworth Senior of Butterworths, said: “I’m fascinated by tea cards and have commissioned many bespoke designs for Butterworth’s over the years.  This is the first time that I’ve joined forces exclusively with a retailer – and I’m over the moon with the partnership. It’s great to be able to share my enthusiasm for tea cards amongst Co-op’s customers and encourage everyone to get collecting – plus they’ll all be able to enjoy an excellent cuppa too.”

All the original artworks were created by Ipswich-based artist Geoff Pleasance whose lifelong fascination with aviation was sparked by a family trip to the Felixstowe Air Show aged seven.  In 1969 he began work at the Imperial War Museum and in 1972 branched out to become a full time artist.  Geoff, whose art is held is in private collections around the world, has since completed in the region of 6,000 commissions working extensively with the USAAF and RAF. He is currently involved in a major arts commission with Suffolk Aviation Heritage.

Geoff said: “‘Airborne over East Anglia’ has been a wonderful project to work on  – Robert outlined the planes and locations he wanted for each painting and I simply set to work bringing his vision to life. My technical skill comes from a lifelong interest in aviation – perhaps sparked too by comics such as The Eagle which featured technological cut-aways that were a constant source of fascination to me.

“Our series of 25 paintings span the decades from the first balloon ascent over Suffolk in 1785 to the outbreak of World War 2.  It’s been a wonderful project to work on!”
